Background
The circulating cooling water system of a steel plant was corroded by metal debris (particle size 10~50 μm) and oil accumulation, resulting in pipeline corrosion and reduced heat exchange efficiency.
Solution
- Filtration system: Install fiber ball filter (high temperature resistant polyester fiber ball) to directly treat circulating return water.
- Parameter adjustment: high temperature tolerance (80℃), filtration speed 20 m/h, backwashing with high pressure water jet.

Implementation effect
- Particle removal: metal debris concentration dropped from 100 mg/L to ≤5 mg/L.
- Energy saving benefit: heat exchange efficiency restored to 90% of the design value, saving about 1.2 million yuan in steam costs annually.
Key points
Fiber balls are resistant to high temperature and wear, and are suitable for high load and high temperature conditions in steel plants.
