Gas treatment and special applications
1. Odor treatment in sewage treatment plants (California case)
Media comparison: Testing the removal effect of coconut shell charcoal, coal-based charcoal, and coconut shell + potassium permanganate composite charcoal on malodorous gases.
Results:
The composite charcoal has the best removal rate for H₂S and dimethyl disulfide, but it breaks through in 57 days;
Coal-based charcoal has the longest operating cycle, but it needs to be pre-set with a 90% removal rate of methyl mercaptan to avoid by-product odor.
2. Grey water reuse treatment (Makassar, Indonesia)
Innovative combination: activated carbon + coconut shell palm + anaerobic baffle reactor system.
Effect: BOD dropped from 54.88 mg/L to the safety standard, and TSS dropped from 464.65 mg/L to 77.42 mg/L, close to the WHO reuse water standard.
